Supporters of fired bus driver rally at City Hall

CALGARY – A handful of people turned up at a rally in front of City Hall Saturday in support of a former Calgary Transit driver who refused to drive a rainbow-coloured pride week bus.

Last month, Jesse Rau was dismissed from his job for breaching Calgary Transit’s code of conduct.

Rau had said he was fired for his christian beliefs, which don’t allow him to support homosexuality by driving the pride bus.

But, his notice of termination stated that Rau was never asked to drive the rainbow-coloured pride bus and expressed concerns over nazi-related content posted on his social media accounts.

Rau has been backed by controversial street church preacher Artur Pawlowski who is asking for donations to support Rau with his family and legal expenses.

Pawlowski addressed the crowd raising concerns about Christians who are being persecuted for their faith.

Several police officers were also at the rally keeping an eye on things as protesters also turned up, saying Rau’s position on the pride bus was hateful.

Rau is now running  for the Christian Heritage Party in the riding of Calgary Signal-Hill.
