Festivals at the Steps of Calgary’s City Hall 2009

We are so excited to invite you to our next festival. There will be two days of celebration Sunday April 26 at 2 pm and Wednesday April 29 at 11 am at the gate of the City – the front steps of City Hall, Calgary. There will be steaks, gifts, beverages, music and of course preaching of the gospel in the name of Jesus Christ for all to hear the unchangeable message of hope, especially in this time when so many are suffering. There are always plenty of jobs to do for everyone who is willing to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and be a blessing to the poorest of the poor in Calgary. Under the posters below, you will see a description of some of the needs for the events and ways that you can help.

What We WILL Need

We will need volunteers who will:

  • Contact local pastors and churches
  • Donations of as many pairs of new socks as you can gather
  • Cook the food
  • Enter into worship
  • Pray for guests
  • Distribute clothes
  • And others (many more ways to help for the willing)

Updates

We would like to take this opportunity to share with you about a few things that you can pray for. God’s divine appointments are happening every time we show up and lately they have been increasing even more. God has been sending people of different languages to preach right at the appropriate time when people of other ethnic backgrounds show up. For example, Gaston led two people to the Lord in Spanish when they just arrived from Mexico. Our brothers from India prayed in their native tongue for others. Myself, in Polish. Bogdan and a Russian sister in her language. There is an increase of teen agers on the streets and God gave us young people to minister to them. Pray for this time because it is very exciting to be in the middle of God’s divine arrangements. We need wisdom, and His revelations for the specific lives that He sends us.

On the streets there are two major areas that we need prayers for. We see a constant increase of youth wondering around on the streets. We had about twenty young people at our table the other day. Tragic, how the Devil steals their innocence in many cases with devastating consequences. There are some victories with some of them. Remember the young people we were telling you about before? We were able to convince some of them to return back home to their families. Praise God for those whose souls we were able to lead to Christ.

The second sad thing we need prayer for relates to the authorities. Do you remember Chico? He is one of the homeless that we have known for years.  He sleeps outside.  On Monday he was very, very sick, with pneumonia and he collapsed to the ground.  As we were busy with serving the needs of the poor, and later taking care of Chico and praying for him, as he was lying on the ground coming in and out of consciousness, I noticed police officers running to our car to place a ticket on it. Where is the decency? Where is the humanity? Where is the logic, in the middle of drug wars, homicides and increasing crime, when the papers the day before indicated that Calgary’s police officers are overworked and there are not enough officers to cover the workload. Pardon me for saying so, but I think the evidence says that they have too many officers, and too much time to spare, if their biggest enemy has become a peaceful church that saves human lives. God forgive them, and please let’s pray for them even more.

Galatians 6:7-10 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. (8) For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. (9) And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (10) So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Some say that we have bitterness toward the authorities, and that we are intentionally provoking them, but that is untrue. We moved the church from under the bridge for the sake of peace, they came after us again in our new location, proving they are not interested in peace. It just goes to show you, that the latest arrest was not about blocking the street or about public safety, but an open persecution and attack on the ministry, but we forgive them and will carry those tickets summons as a badge of honour before our Lord, because He says, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake."

Let’s remember, at the end of the day, it’s all about souls. Their souls as well.

Live today as though Christ will return tomorrow,
Blessings to you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
