Debate over driver not wanting to drive Pride Week bus rages on
City manager Jeff Fielding says he’s surprised at the reaction to Calgary Transit running a bus promoting Pride Week.
A driver has caused some waves, saying his religious freedoms are at-risk and refuses to drive the bus.
However, Fielding says the issue could have been dealt with, by the driver going to a manager to express his concerns.
Fielding says the city is running on a principle of inclusion, diversity and respect and everyone is welcome in Calgary.
He also says the city will have to look at it’s protocols if other groups come forward asking for the same treatment in having a bus promote their cause.
While there have been donations, the city is providing $2,000 in having the bus decorated and operating this week.
