February 1st, 2014 was the Premiere showing of the movie “Street Advocate”.
What a great evening it was! The lineup started early and the ticket sales were brisk. The lobby of the Plaza Theatre in Calgary’s Kensington district soon filled right up. There was the smell of popcorn and excited chatter, and everyone was aware of the attendance of such notables as Ric McIver, Alberta Minister of Infrastructure, lawyer Michael Bates, Member of Parliament Rob Anders and Sandy DeWall a local businessman who also was a master of ceremony for the night.
Inside the theatre, Mr. Anders, Mr. McIvor, and pastor Artur Pawlowski took turns introducing the film with some words from the stage, and then the curtains were raised.
Street Advocate, which was written and directed by a famous filmmaker Tomasz Wiszniewski and produced by the Voice of the Gospel Foundation, unraveled much of the history, struggles, trials and triumphs of the small Calgary based organization, Street Church.
The movie went on to chronicle much of the history of Street Church leader Artur Pawlowski and his family, including a very touching miracle and message that was given to them which involved their newborn son Nathaniel. Touching testimonies of those affected by the ministry and its mission work made this a compelling and a very moving film. Mr. Wiszniewski is a gifted film maker and really did justice portraying the last nine years of Street Church’s work.
Once the story had been told and the snacks had all been finished, the film closed out to a rousing ovation. Immediately afterwards speeches were given and panel of discussion was formed with a question and answer time, by lawyer Michael Bates,
Rob Anders, and Artur Pawlowski which expounded on some of the current plans, works and battles that Street Church is going through. This was very informative and gave the audience a more thorough understanding of what this organization is all about.
Finally, the crowd dispersed, most taking with them a DVD copy of Street Advocate, the movie.
If you were not able to be there for this amazing evening, you can catch the fire that this movie has started by visiting the web page of Street Advocate at http://www.streetadvocate.com and order your copy of the DVD.
This is a film that will help you to understand the passion and reasons for the dogged determinism of this unique and blessed ministry. It will give you hope knowing that there are a faithful people among this generation who have given up everything to serve our great God and Saviour. Maybe you are one of them.
