Danielle Smith Praying to Foreign gods-ubdated

Danielle Smith Praying to Foreign gods

What will Danielle Smith do Next?

Will she bow before eating her Alberta steak and ask forgiveness of the Hindu god (for eating the holy cow)?

Alberta is a province that was made a province of advantage because it had a soul; a soul that came from its Christian roots. It wasn’t an aimless, anything goes, province but a province built on principals and values. In fact, at one time, Alberta was known as the Bible belt of Canada. Today, in Alberta, coming up to the 2012 Alberta provincial election we are seeing a panel of candidates that seem to be soulless and without the fibre that made our province what it is today (great and prosperous).

It has been said, if one stands for nothing, he will fall for everything and I believe that that is truly the case when it comes to leadership and in this case the formation of the next government of Alberta. The decisions made and brought into reality over the next several days will dictate how a lot of things are done in this province and even how our province works with other provinces to either be a voice for what is good or merely a yes man voice, just going along to get along.

The current panel of leaders is bleak. On one side, we have a dictator in Alison Redford that wants to force parents to forfeit their religious and deeply held moral beliefs and values in favour of tolerance and diversity [Bill 2 – Alberta’s proposed new Education Act]. On the other side we have Danielle Smith who seems to be willing to put on whatever costumes people want her to, just to gain votes and win an election and that is truly scary, because you cannot predict what such a leader would be willing to do in the future just to stay in power, once she gets there.

Sporting a bindi and a traditional Hindu dress, Wildrose leader Danielle Smith is guided through saying pranam to the Lord by Wildrose candidate Prasad Panda and Wildrose staffer Anish Dwivedi (R) in a Hindu temple in northeast Calgary on Sunday, April 15, 2012. Smith was guided through asking blessings of Hindu gods before taking part in a Sunday service. LYLE ASPINALL/CALGARY SUN

Of course, for those of you who have not heard, we should make it clear what Danielle Smith did to cause us to make such a statement. Recently, on Sunday April 15, 2012, Danielle Smith decided to take a day most Christians consider holy and use it to entertain idolatrous practices as far as God, the True and Living God, of the Bible is concerned. What was it that she did? She didn’t go to a dinner with Hindus, nor to a meeting at a Hindu cultural centre, but rather she dressed in Hindu garb, and “Smith was guided through asking blessings of Hindu gods before taking part in a Sunday [Hindu] service” (http://www.calgarysun.com/2012/04/15/wildrose-under-fire-for-pastors-comments). She really crossed the line from being tolerant of other people and their beliefs to actively participating in their idolatrous practices. Don’t get me wrong, we love Hindus, we love homosexuals, muslims, etc. They dine and are welcome at our tables four times a week on the streets of Calgary. Our obligation as Christians is to stand without compromise for truth, and also to be vocal about that truth, bringing it to people who have ears to hear.

You see, I had previously decided to vote for the Wild Rose Party. I was there when the Wild Rose and the Alberta Alliance parties merged. I had sincere hoped that this party would bring more accountability, higher standards and more common sense politics to Alberta. But what I see now is bigger compromise and greater abominations. God is very clear in His word, “thou shalt have no other gods before me”. I guess those that desire power, money and prestige have forgotten about the greatest commandment of God. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am greatly disturbed and saddened by the lack of values and standards shown by what could be our next premier.

In the old testament, in former generations, we saw similar behaviour shown by leaders, of the nation of Israel, making for themselves idols that cannot see, nor hear.

In Exodus 32:

golden calf

The Golden Calf

1 When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”

2 Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” 3 So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. 4 He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”

5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival to the LORD.” 6 So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.

7 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt. 8 They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’

9 “I have seen these people,” the LORD said to Moses, “and they are a stiff-necked people. 10 Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”

11 But Moses sought the favour of the LORD his God. “LORD,” he said, “why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand? 12 Why should the Egyptians say, ‘It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster on your people. 13 Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self: ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever.’” 14 Then the LORD relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.

15 Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands. They were inscribed on both sides, front and back. 16 The tablets were the work of God; the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.

17 When Joshua heard the noise of the people shouting, he said to Moses, “There is the sound of war in the camp.”

 18 Moses replied:

“It is not the sound of victory,
   it is not the sound of defeat;
it is the sound of singing that I hear.”

19 When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain. 20 And he took the calf the people had made and burned it in the fire; then he ground it to powder, scattered it on the water and made the Israelites drink it.

21 He said to Aaron, “What did these people do to you, that you led them into such great sin?”

22 “Do not be angry, my lord,” Aaron answered. “You know how prone these people are to evil. 23 They said to me, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.’ 24 So I told them, ‘Whoever has any gold jewelry, take it off.’ Then they gave me the gold, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf!”

25 Moses saw that the people were running wild and that Aaron had let them get out of control and so become a laughingstock to their enemies. 26 So he stood at the entrance to the camp and said, “Whoever is for the LORD, come to me.” And all the Levites rallied to him.

27 Then he said to them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbour.’” 28 The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died. 29 Then Moses said, “You have been set apart to the LORD today, for you were against your own sons and brothers, and he has blessed you this day.”

30 The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. But now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”

31 So Moses went back to the LORD and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold. 32 But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written.”

33 The LORD replied to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out of my book. 34 Now go, lead the people to the place I spoke of, and my angel will go before you. However, when the time comes for me to punish, I will punish them for their sin.”

35 And the LORD struck the people with a plague because of what they did with the calf Aaron had made.

This kind of behaviour reminds me of the people that I work with on the streets, as I try to rescue them from a lifestyle of self-destruction – to drugs and alcohol. Now, many of those politicians act like the prostitutes, that we work with, that would sell themselves to anyone just to get “high” (in this case approval and votes). No self-worth, no back bone keeping them doing the right thing, just business as usual. At the end of the day, what matters for them is another satisfied client (a voter or group of voters won over to the cause).

The problem, though, remains. It’s just a matter of time when disease will destroy those that participate in that which the Lord calls abominations.

“God, please forgive this country and these people for their great sin. Bring them back to you by the power of your love, mercy and grace. Clean this province and may your truth return to their hearts.” That’s my prayer.

God says, that His truth shall set any captive free.

I do not know how any Christian can vote, with a clean conscience and a pure heart, for a person that sleeps with any idol they please. I know I cannot. Danielle Smith lost my vote. For in the process of trying to be politically correct she became politically incorrect, spitting in the face of the Living God and bowing down to worship idols, offending the rest of us (Christians). My choice has been narrowed down to none, and therefor I will abstain from voting.

Jer 2:5 (NIV) This is what the Lord says: “What fault did your fathers find in me, that they strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves.”

Ps 97:7 (NIV) All who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols…

1 Sam 12:21 (NIV) Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless.

Isa 57:12-13 (NIV) “I will expose your righteousness and your works, and they will not benefit you. When you cry out for help, let your collection [of idols] save you! The wind will carry all of them off, a mere breath will blow them away. But the man who makes me his refuge will inherit the land and possess my holy mountain.”

Isa 42:8 (NIV) “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.”

Eze 23:7,29-30 (NIV) She gave herself as a prostitute… and defiled herself with all the idols of everyone she lusted after… They will deal with you in hatred and take away everything you have worked for. They will leave you naked and bare, and the shame of your prostitution will be exposed. Your lewdness and promiscuity have brought this upon you, because you lusted after the nations and defiled yourself with their idols.

Jonah 2:8 (NIV) “Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.”

This isn’t your father’s Wildrose.

Oh yes, a few days back, Wildrose boss Danielle Smith goes rogue in an interview with the lesbian website I Dig Your Girlfriend.

It’s a place in cyberspace dedicated to “conquering lesbian stereotypes one wet dream at a time.”

To their credit, Terah and Janelle score the exclusive interview and ask some interesting questions.

But they don’t have to do much to encourage Smith in her 40-minute spacewalk.

With ease and occasional laughter, Smith changes party policy for two hot-button issues on the fly and again digs up ex-Wildrose hopeful Allan (Lake of Fire) Hunsperger while talking about what religious believers must do if they want to be candidates.

Smith does not challenge the interviewers when they call the Wildrose “the oldest of old boys’ clubs” and thinks it’s funny and “maybe a little surprising” she leads the party.

The curious sit-down ends with Smith saying Hillary Clinton would make a “terrific president.”

Anyway, as they say on the old Bugs Bunny cartoon, on with the show, this is it.

Funding sex-change operations.

If Wildrose wins, they will fund them. A month ago, Smith said they shouldn’t be funded and other needs “must be put first.” Must.

“The decision has been made,” says Smith, who adds she does not want to “try to repoliticize it.”

Smith adds a decision on funding should be left to a medical panel and Albertans “probably would not put” sex changes at the top of the list but she won’t go there.

“Now that the decision has been made I’ll leave it at that,” she says, before dropping the whammy line.

“I’ll indicate that to my party as well.”

What a scoop, I Dig Your Girlfriend. You know the party’s new position before the Wildrosers.

The rights of health-care pros and marriage commissioners to opt out of performing a service if it’s against their conscience.

After the election, Smith said some party stances would be revisited. Surprise. The revisit has happened.

The Wildrose leader says in the medical profession, you now have to disclose a conscience objection to your patient, offer a referral and if there’s no place to refer you, do the procedure.

She says there may have been a time when allowing a marriage commissioner to opt out of performing same-sex marriages could be argued.

“As far as I can see, the issue has been decided.”

Smith says there never was a Wildrose policy on the conscience rights of marriage commissioners.

A year ago, in a questionnaire, Smith wrote “the Wildrose will ensure conscience rights for marriage commissioners and health professionals.”

Ah, she says, that was an “interpretation of one of our policy staff.”

She’s getting better at throwing people under the bus.

Smith says she did tell her party “I have more liberal views on issue of abortion, I’m pro-choice, on issues of gay rights, I was for gay marriage.”

“They knew my views were more progressive on those issues when they elected me as leader.”

The leader says it’s “very clear” to her, and she thinks to her party, what people of faith have to do if they want to run.

She brings up Hunsperger, the pastor who ran for Wildrose and in a blog to his flock a year before the election talked about homosexuals burning in hell in the life to come.

Smith calls Hunsperger’s comments “strident” and “offensive” and says his case is an “important lesson” to Wildrose.

Candidates with religious beliefs have to show they can represent everyone.

She doesn’t explain exactly what that looks like.

Nor does Smith explain what obligation candidates of no religious faith, such as herself, have in showing they can represent everyone.

She says there are lots of people out there with “fairly conservative values” and they should be able to worship as they will.

“But if you want to seek public life, if you want to be a politician, you have to decide what hat you’re going to wear.”

Er … faith isn’t a hat.

Smith does offer I Dig Your Girlfriend hope.

The Wildrose leader says some people who call themselves Christians “are embracing a broader interpretation of the Scriptures” and “have not only gay pastors but also perform gay marriages.”

“So what you are seeing already in the interpretation of the same Christian faith is that people are practising it in a different way.

“I suspect you may see more of that over time.”

Oh really.

By the time Smith says Hillary Clinton would be a terrific president and she wants to meet her, all surprise is gone.

By the way, I Dig Your Girlfriend finds Smith likable and charming.

They won’t be voting for her.
